About Zirconium Crown
A zirconium crown is a cap that covers a damaged, weak or heavily filled tooth. Zirconium is a strong, tooth-coloured material, so crowns look natural and are hard-wearing. They are often chosen after a root canal treatment or to improve the look of a tooth.
Benefits
- Strong and durable
- Natural tooth-coloured look
- Protects a weak or cracked tooth
- No dark metal edge

Safety and what to tell us
- The tooth needs to be reshaped, which removes some of its surface

- Good gum health and cleaning keep the crown and tooth healthy
What to expect
- Preparation. The tooth is reshaped under local anaesthetic and an impression or scan is taken.
- Temporary. A temporary crown protects the tooth while your crown is made.
- Fitting. The final crown is checked for fit and colour, then fixed in place.
Sessions
Usually two visits, a little over a week apart.
Downtime
None. Mild tenderness or sensitivity for a few days.
Aftercare
- Avoid very hard or sticky foods at first
- Brush and clean around the crown carefully
- Attend regular check-ups
